Mayan Slavery

Slaves were the lowest class in Mayan society. They were usually orphans, war prisoners, criminals, or the children of slaves. Although they weren't necessarily mistreated by their owners, slaves still had no rights or privileges in society. Their only function in society was to do all of the manual labor, which means that all of the temples, like the one in the picture below, were entirely made by slaves. In addition, they were also the most frequently used for human sacrifice rituals.
